Teaching functions of English tenses at secondary schools in Congo

Abstract

The purpose of this research paper is to provide some didactic strategies to help both teachers and learners cope with the functions of English simple present tense based on direction at secondary school. In fact, through integrated observations in classes, it appears that teachers of English restrict the teaching of English tenses on the form that a verb can take neglecting their functions or usages in English sentences. Thanks to the review of the teaching methodologies on English tenses, explanatory method coupled with 3Ps model have been selected in order to boost the process of teaching, learning and assessing English tense functions as any other English lessons.
