Abstract

This research work deals with the teaching of English connected speech items in general and progressive assimilation in particular. In addition, it aims at scrutinizing the difficulties the secondary school learners encounter in encoding and decoding the English oral messages when communicating orally. In fact, our investigation instruments such as pre -investigation, classroom observati on and questionnaire confirm that the selected item is inserted in the official syllabus of English course however, it is not taught , learnt and assessed in classes. Therefore, this work suggests the didactic guideline that covers a sample of a lesson plan with regards to teaching strategies and testing exercises in order to facilitate the implementation of assimilated groups of words in English.
