Abstract

This study analyzes the syntactic behavior of the predicate in mboxo, followed by some comparisons with certain languages of the C20 group such as misguided, akwá, koyó and mbochi. Thus, the predicate is the most important functional category in a sentence. It is he who bases the sentence, the one to which the other constitutive elements of the sentence are connected. It can not be deleted without destroying the existence of the sentence. In mboxo, this function is usually occupied by the monemes belonging to the class of verbs. However, there are constructions in which the predicative function is assumed by nonverbal syntactic units.
