Résumé

On the basis of the structural description proposed by Marantz (1981 -1984), this article aims to study how verbal extensions in Likuba affect the meaning and argument structure of verbs to which they are attached. It is shown that semantically, verbal extensions in Likuba, like in other Bantu languag es, extend or change the simple verb meaning com pletely. Syntactically, they change the word order and increase or decrease the verb valence. Accordingly, five verbal extensions have been identified, and only the following constructions related to those extensions are formed in Likuba, namely, causative , passive, reciprocative, and reversive ones.
