This article explores, using the socio-semiotic approach, the link between the artwork of a painter, Nicolas de Staël, and the text of a contemporary novelist, Albert Camus. The binary or antithetical approach operated by the first in the use of his palette appears to echo the existential disorder or the representation of conflict or confrontation implemented in the story of the second. In this context, the artwork, Figures au bord de la mer, bears some resemblance to a poster or a foreword to the main theme of the novel, l’Etranger.
